Quick Tip: Stop a Rocking Toilet
What causes a rocking toilet
When a toilet starts to rock, it could be a sign of a bigger issue. The toilet may have been leaking for awhile. That water gets trapped between the toilet and the floor. The trapped water starts to rot the flooring and creates an uneven surface. This is why the toilet now rocks. The toilet will have to be pulled to see how extensive the damage is. The subflooring may need to be replaced if the leak has gone unnoticed for years.
Another cause of a rocking toilet is a poor installation. The bolts may not be tight enough or installed correctly. If you decide to tighten them yourself, be careful. You may crack the toilet if too much force is used.
A rotted flange can make a toilet rock. A flange connects your toilet to the end of the sewage pipe. It’s located in the floor underneath your toilet. A wax ring sits on top of the flange and the toilet gets bolted on top of both.
