A receptable or light switch that is suddenly dead.
This condition requires immediate attention by an electrician.  If a wire behind the receptacle or switch breaks, the wires remain "hot" meaning electricity is still conducted through the wire. 

This is an absolute fire hazard and must be checked immediately.
