Summertime plumbing issues
As summer is winding down and back-to-school sales are being advertised, your plumbing may be showing signs of stress. Summer break meant that the kids were home more or that you had out-of-town relatives visiting. The burst of increased usage took a toll on your home's toilets, garbage disposal, and faucets.Toilet: Sleepovers, play dates and visits from relatives meant that your toilets got more use then they did the rest of the year. If you notice that your toilet is running, you may need the flapper replaced. If you notice that it isn't flushing, an object may have accidentally been dropped into it... We have snaked out quite the number of rubber duckies from toilets!
Garbage Disposal: Cookin' is easy in the summer! Grilled chicken & steaks, watermelon and corn on the cob are staples of a yummy CT summer meal. However, none of those items are easy on your home's plumbing system, especially the garbage disposal. Those items are DEATH to a garbage disposal. Bones, stringy fat and fruit rinds should never be put down a garbage disposal. Taking this preventative measure will save you from a big [read: $$$] plumbing repair!
Faucet installation in Mansfield CT
Faucet: The increased toilet use and summer food prep means that your faucets got even more use as well. The gaskets might be leaking now or the aerators are plugged up. Outside faucets, or spigots, also got a lot of use when the gardens needed attention or so a sprinkler game could be enjoyed. If any of your plumbing fixtures are leaking, it's best to call a plumber now before the cold temperatures start setting in. Frost-free outdoor faucets should be installed now. Also, remember to disconnect your garden hoses for the season to avoid burst pipes in the winter!
Mold in the bathroom: Humidity is an unfortunate evil we have to work around to enjoy the fruits of summer. To prevent mold on your bathroom's walls and ceiling, remember to turn on the ventilator fan with each shower and bath. We recommend that you keep the fan running for 30 minutes after your shower or bath. One of our electricians can install a timer system for a ventilation fan to make this even easier.
