Help! I have a clogged drain! The tub isn't draining. The toilet isn't flushing. The kitchen sink is backing up. You have things to do, places to go, and people to see in Marlborough CT. You don't have time to deal with a clogged drain. You need to fix this NOW.
We have a guess on the two things you reach for:
- A chemical, store-bought drain cleaner
Put down the drain cleanerStop! We urge you NOT to use any sort of store-bought chemical drain cleaners. They MAY work [but usually don't] to get rid of a clogged drain. But let's just take a second to stop and think about HOW they work.
That drain cleaner is chemicals. CHEMICALS. It only works because something super toxic is eating away at whatever's causing the clogged drain. It could be hair, food or a small toy. Think about how strong that liquid has to be to eat away at something in just a few minutes.
Now, think about how something that strong could also be damaging the pipes in your home. If chemical drain cleaner is the go-to solution to clearing a clog, it's doing a ton of damage to the pipes in your home. Not only is it clearing the clog, but it's eating away at the insides of your pipes and drains, bit by bit. Eventually, you'll find pinhole leaks or cracks.
The clogged drain issues might be resolved, but then you're going to have an even bigger plumbing issue at hand: re-piping.
Safe way to clear a clogged drainChemical cleaners aren't just damaging to your home's plumbing. Any time you use a plunger after pouring cleaner down the drain, you run the risk of burning yourself. The suction from the plunger will bring up whatever's in the drain, and it can burn your eyes or skin. Please let a plumber know if you've used a cleaner, so that he can protect himself and the surrounding area.
We strongly suggest using a "green" enzyme cleaner instead. The one we use is Bio-Clean. Instead of chemicals, it's made from a blend of bacteria and enzymes. From the Made in the USA manufacturer:
